Writers can choose from more than 20 workshops that will be part of a free regional creative writing conference, “More Than Writing,” hosted by first-year Minnesota State Mankato creative writing MFA students on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23.

The student-developed conference, in Centennial Student Union, will feature a book fair, used book sale and numerous panels and discussions about writing and related issues, including what editors want, how to form a writers’ group, self-publishing, book art and guerilla filmmaking.

The conference is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the public.

A reading by Tamarack Prize-winner Nicole Helget – author of books for adults and children – will headline the conference at 7:30 p.m. Friday. In addition, current students, alumni and community writers will read their work, lead discussions on the craft, and discuss publishing.

The conference also will feature a chapbook exchange, and writers are encouraged to bring their chapbooks to share with other writers.

Those who want the conference schedule and more information may go to the conference website at http://english.mnsu.edu/morethanwriting/index.htm.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive, doctoral university with 15,393 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 32 state institutions.
