Students, faculty and staff from Minnesota’s two largest state universities – St. Cloud State and Minnesota State Mankato – will face off on treadmills in an all-day competition Wednesday, April 27, at both campuses.

Participants will vie to determine which school can accumulate the greatest number of miles on a treadmill in 10 hours. Winners of the first-ever event, sponsored by campus recreation departments at both schools, will earn a traveling trophy.

The “Treadmill-a-Thon” will start at 8 a.m. Wednesday and end at 6 p.m. Minnesota State Mankato participants will compete on one treadmill in Otto Recreation Center of Taylor Center.

“This will be a great new tradition between the campus rec departments at two sister schools,” said Jen Myers, fitness and wellness coordinator for Minnesota State Mankato’s Campus Recreation Department. “It’s also an opportunity for students to relax as they prepare for final exam week May 2-6.”

Several Minnesota State Mankato students, faculty and staff members have registered as Maverick treaders, and others are welcome to sign up for 15-, 30- or 60-minute sessions, Myers said. They can register during the event at Otto Rec Center or ahead of time by calling (507) 389-3269.

As the event progresses Myers will post progress reports and videos on the campus recreation Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/people/Campus-Rec/1548907367. More information about the event also can be found at the campus recreation website, http://www.mnsu.edu/campusrec/.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,393 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 32 state institutions.
