First-ever Treadmill-A-Thon focuses on student wellness
Minnesota State Mankato and St. Cloud State University wrapped up their first ever treadmill–a–thon competition this evening.
Broadcast on KEYC-TV, Mankato, MN, 4/27/2011
At this minute Minnesota State Mankato and St. Cloud State University are wrapping up their first ever treadmill–a–thon competition.
At the last count Minnesota State Mankato had 71.5 miles and St. Cloud State had 69.
The two schools have been tracking their total number of miles today on one treadmill, at each campus.
Students take turns on the designated treadmill and try to rack up miles for their school.
Minnesota State Mankato's fitness coordinator Jen Myers says she organized the event to create a fun rivalry between the schools.
"We as recreation professionals realize the students can't study all day long," Myers says. "They need a way to relieve their stress and get some energy, and being able to offer a great recreation program on campus will hopefully keep them coming back and enjoying and feeling invested in and taking pride in their university."
"I love to run and I love to compete," says participant Kristin Coughlin.
The winning school will receive the traveling trophy.
Organizers hope the event will become a tradition.
It's sponsored by the Campus Recreation Department at each university.
