Walt Wolff, admissions director emeritus at Minnesota State University, Mankato, received the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Fitterer Service Award from the university last week.
Wolff, of Mankato, is one of nine alumni who are 2011 award winners. He was honored at an April 29 dinner and ceremony hosted by the Minnesota State Mankato Alumni Association.
Fitterer Service Awards go to graduates who have given distinguished service to Minnesota State Mankato and have used their time, treasure and talents to preserve and promote university programs.
Wolff, for many years Minnesota State Mankato’s admissions director and interim dean of student affairs, retired in January. He graduated in 1984 with a master’s in continuing studies.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Penn., Wolff moved to Minnesota in 1975, serving as placement director for five high schools. In 1982 he joined Minnesota State Mankato’s Career Development Center, initiating a program to help students find part-time employment.
He moved to the First Year Experience office, developing programs to promote student success and increase retention. He then was appointed director of admissions, expanding the office’s scope and increasing student enrollment by more than 50 percent.
Before his retirement in 2010, he served for two years as interim dean of students.
