Piano students capture top awards in state competition

Two students win top state piano competition awards.

Two Minnesota State University, Mankato students have captured top awards in the state’s most prestigious competition for young pianists.

Amy Chin and Youna Choi, two Minnesota State Mankato graduate students in piano, won the top two awards in the Minnesota Music Teachers Association Young Artist Piano Competition in March.

Choi, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., won the competition, and Chin, of Mankato, was second. Each performed a 30-minute program with works by four different composers.
Choi will perform at the honors concert in the Minneapolis Convention Center Saturday, May 21, and Chin will perform in the Young Artist Recital at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Plymouth, Minn., on June 7.

Both pianists are students of Minnesota State Mankato music faculty member David Viscoli.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive, doctoral university with 15,393 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 32 state institutions.
