Students complete walk to oppose high tuition
Fox 9 Video: Maverick walkers reach St. Paul, meet with governor.
Broadcast on Fox 9 News, Eden Prairie, MN, 5/12/2011
Eight students from Minnesota State University in Mankato walked 96 miles in 4 days to arrive in St. Paul to show lawmakers they care about rising tuition costs and education cuts.
Dayton met with the students who hoofed it all the way to the Capitol and offered them congratulations.
On Thursday, mayors and school superintendents from Minneapolis, St. Paul and Duluth gathered at Dayton’s office as well, arguing that proposed cuts would disproportionately harm their cities by cutting nearly $60 million in funding over the next two years.
The Republican majority claims their budget will not cut K-12 education programs, but their final budget numbers have not yet been released. They are expected by early next week at the latest.
