Play therapy techniques designed to help children socialize are the focus of the seventh annual Play Therapy Conference Academy for Child and Family Studies Friday, Sept. 23, at Minnesota State Mankato.

The workshop, co-sponsored by Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Counseling & Student Personnel and Center for School-University Partnerships, is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Centennial Student Union.

The conference will introduce therapy techniques for counselors to use in assessment and engagement, and to elicit emotional expression, coping strategies and self-esteem in children.

Workshop presenter will be Sueann Kenney-Noziska, a licensed social worker and play therapist supervisor who specializes in clinical practice play therapy for children, adolescents and their families.

Professional workshop participants receive six continuing education hours, and graduate students receive one semester hour for the workshop. More information about and registration for the workshop is at http://ed.mnsu.edu/csup/conferences.html.

Minnesota State Mankato’s Center for School-University Partnerships, part of the College of Education, is a liaison between P-12 institutions and colleges involved in teacher education. The Department of Counseling & Student Personnel offers applied doctorates in Counselor Education and Supervision and master’s degrees in College Student Affairs, Professional School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling.
