Acclaimed folk, blues guitarist Charlie Parr to perform Jan. 19.
Minnesota State University, Mankato Media Relations Office news release [1/18/2012]
Minnesota-based folk and blues artist Charlie Parr will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts.
Charlie Parr is a critically acclaimed songwriter and guitarist from Duluth who has toured throughout the United States, the UK, Ireland, Scotland, and Australia. He has released 12 albums of folk, blues, and Americana music influenced by his upbringing with traditional American folk as well as country blues influences.
Parr is often described as "authentic" and "the real deal" by fans and music critics alike. He shows up with a lived-in rasp of a voice, National resonator and 12-string acoustic guitars and a banjo.
In addition, Parr has a batch of his own songs and well-traveled numbers by Mississippi John Hurt, Charley Patton and other cohorts from another time. He lays it on you and you sense that the gamblers, the union workers, the criminals and the sinners that wander around his songs are peering right over your shoulder.
Concert admission is $12; $11 for students with a valid MavCard. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Advance purchase is strongly encouraged.
