Hope College professor to address: "Do Dogs Know Calculus?" in March 20 colloquium

Professor Tim Pennings from the Hope College (Mich.) Department of Mathematics will answer the question, “Do Dogs Know Calculus?,” during a presentation at 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, in Wissink Hall 288.

Professor Tim Pennings from the Hope College (Mich.) Department of Mathematics will answer the question, “Do Dogs Know Calculus?,” during a presentation at 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, in Wissink Hall 288 at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Pennings’ presentation, sponsored by Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics, is free and open to the public. A light refreshment will be served beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Wissink Hall 291.

Pennings’ presents his topic in a humorous manner intended to be understandable to the general public as well as calculus students. He also brings his dog, Elvis, to the presentations.

Pennings is an associate professor of mathematics at Hope College in Holland, Mich. He has traveled to various college and university campuses to give his talk about calculus and Elvis for the past eight years. His research, done collaboratively with undergraduate students, is in dynamical systems and modeling.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,649 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 32 state institutions.
