Mankato, Minn. — The 2012 International Bioenergy Days Conference, a conference with a focus on business and investment in renewable energy, will be held from Sunday, Oct. 7 through Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
The conference provides an opportunity for public-private partnerships and the academic community to build relations within the United States and around the world. Conference topics include using biomass for residential and commercial heating and cooling; the production of biomaterials from agricultural residues; production and use of biofuels for transportation; and the positive economics of bioenergy.
Speakers during the conference include former WCCO news anchor Don Shelby and Arctic explorer and environmentalist Will Steger.
Shelby will give a Nobel-inspired dinner & keynote address at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8 titled “Achieving Energy Security with Renewable Alternatives.” Steger will give a lunch address at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9 titled “Linking Economics to my Personal Experience with Climate Change.”
Cost of the conference is $325 until Sept. 21 and $400 beginning Sept. 22. The conference will begin with a kickoff open house at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7 in the Centennial Student Union Ballroom, followed by conference meetings on Monday, Oct. 8 and Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Two study tours will be held in conjunction with the conference for an additional cost. A three-day study tour (Wednesday, Oct. 10 through Friday, Oct. 12) in Northeast Minnesota will look at renewable energy projects near the Duluth-Ely-Grand Rapids area. A one-day tour (Wednesday, Oct. 10) in Southern Minnesota will look at several bioenergy-related facilities in the Mankato to Albert Lea area.
