April 18: 2011 Minnesota Teacher of Year Visit

Katy Smith, 2011 teacher of the year from the Winona School District, will speak in Ostrander Auditorium.

Mankato, Minn. – Katy Smith, 2011 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, will speak from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 in the Minnesota State University, Mankato Centennial Student Union's Ostrander Auditorium.

The presentation is for education and business leaders and no registration is necessary. Parking for the event is in the University PayLot (located across from the CSU), and parking tickets will be provided.

Smith, the first early childhood educator to win Minnesota Teacher of the Year honors in the 48-year history of the award, will talk about the importance of investing in early childhood and what's possible when children start on the right path toward learning.

This event is sponsored by Mankato ECFE, Lake Crystal ECFE, Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation and Minnesota State University, Mankato.

After Smith's afternoon presentation at Ostrander Auditorium, she will also speak from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at South Central College in Mankato about media and children. Her evening presentation is for childcare providers, other early childhood professionals and the general public. No registration is necessary.
