May 28-June 1 Theatre Features 'The 39 Steps'

Fast-paced comedy opens Highland Summer season.

Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre & Dance News Release, 5-28-2013

The Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre & Dance opens its 47th annual Highland Summer Theatre season with a nod to the master of horror with the farcical "The 39 Steps" Tuesday-Saturday, May 28-June 1, in the Andreas Theatre. It is made possible through the General Mills Gift Matching Program.

Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of farce and you have "The 39 Steps," a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This 2-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 wild characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of 4), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance! "The 39 Steps" was Broadway’s longest running comedy, and played its 500th performance on Broadway on May 19, 2009.

Watch some clips from the Broadway production for a sample of the zaniness, then visit for tickets. The Theatre & Dance Box Office is open from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Earley Center for Performing Arts.
