Undergrad Nursing Program Honored
Minnesota State Mankato nursing program selected for top national award.

Mankato, Minn. Mankato, Minn. -- Minnesota State University, Mankato has been selected as one of six recipients nationwide for the 2013 National League of Nursing (NLN) Hearst Foundations Excellence in Geriatric Education Award.
The award will be presented Sept. 20 during the NLN Education Summit, which will be held at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C. Minnesota State Mankato’s innovative approach to teaching care of older adults will be highlighted in a special presentation at a pre-summit workshop
This year’s Sept. 18-21 Summit theme is “Raising the Roof/Advancing the Nation’s Health,” and NLN officials said the award winners all reflect the theme and its goals through their outstanding programs
Elaine Tagliareni, the NLN’s chief program officer, said the Minnesota State Mankato program demonstrated “exceptional innovation in teaching care of older adults, a key area of nursing education.”
Kristine Retherford, dean of the College of Allied Health & Nursing, and Julie Hebenstreit, chairperson of the School of Nursing, praised the work of the nursing faculty, citing Norma Krumwiede, Colleen Royle and all faculty who, in particular, contributed to this prestigious award.
“This is just another sign of the great work that is being done by our faculty,” Hebenstreit said.
The presentation to Minnesota State Mankato will be made by both NLN and Hearst Foundations officials, and selection for the award includes complimentary registration at the NLN Education Summit and payment toward travel by those representing the Minnesota State Mankato program.
