Oct. 21: Sports writer, talk show host Dave Zirin

Mankato, Minn. – Guest lecturer Dave Zirin (pictured at right), a sports writer and Sirius XM Radio talk show host, will discuss “Sports and Political Resistance in the United States” in the 2013-14 Nadine B. Andreas Lecture at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Centennial Student Union’s Ostrander Auditorium.
Zirin’s presentation is free and open to the public. Prior to the presentation, a reception will be held at 6 p.m. in front of Ostrander Auditorium. Zirin is scheduled to be interviewed on KMSU Radio (89.7 FM in Mankato) from 1:15 p.m. to 1:35 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21.
Zirin authors a weekly sports column, “The Edge of Sports,” and is host of Sirius XM Radio’s “Edge of Sports Radio.” He has authored several books on politics, culture and sport, including “Bad Sports: How Owners are Ruining the Games We Love” and “The John Carlos Story: The Sports Moment that Changed the World” (co-authored with Juan Carlos), which has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award. He has appeared on television programs ranging from ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” to the “Rachel Maddow Show.”
