Football Ranked No. 1 in Nation

Mankato, Minn. -- With its win this past weekend, the undefeated Minnesota State University, Mankato football team (6-0 overall) was named the No. 1 team in the nation in the weekly American Football Coaches Association poll that was released Monday (Oct. 14).
This is the first time in its history that the Minnesota State Mankato football team has been ranked No. 1 in the nation in the AFCA poll.
Other MSU programs that have been ranked No. 1 in the nation include the men's basketball (2/1/05), wrestling (twice in 2007-08 season), women's basketball (three times in 2008-09 season) and soccer (10/16/12).
MSU, the highest-rated team from the NSIC, improved to the top spot in the poll after defeating Augustana 20-10 this past weekend. Minnesota Duluth climbed to ninth spot in the poll, while St. Cloud State re-entered the poll at 25th.
The Mavericks hit the road Saturday as they take on the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs in Marshall, Minn. The opening kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
