Mankato, Minn. – The foods, music, dances and customs of dozens of nations can be experienced at the 38th annual Mankato Area International Festival, Sunday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Minnesota State University, Mankato Centennial Student Union. Admission, entertainment and parking are free.

Highlights of this year’s festival include three popular performance groups bringing unique music and dance forms to Mankato. Socaholix are a six-piece Minneapolis-based group performing energetic Soca and other Jamaican musical styles. Ticket to Brasil is a Twin Cities-based band centered on Bossa Nova, an amalgam of Afro-Brazilian samba, European music, and American Jazz. The Hung Voung Association of Minnesota will perform the exciting Dragon Dance native to Southeast Asia.

The colorful flag parade opens the festival at 11 a.m., followed by continuous performances on three stages. International student groups and area restaurants will sell a wide variety of international foods. Other attractions include Children’s and Teens World, a silent auction, and vendor booths with traditional cultural items from many nations, in keeping with this year’s theme – One World, Many Stories.

Free parking is available next to the Student Union, in the large parking lot directly in front of the Centennial Student Union main south entrance, and at several other designated campus parking lots.
