Mankato, Minn. – Unisys senior vice president and distinguished Minnesota State University, Mankato alumnus Suresh Mathews (pictured) will be the first executive in residence for the University’s College of Business on April 24 and 25.

Mathews is senior vice president and chief information officer for Unisys, the Pennsylvania-based global information technology company. Mathews graduated from Minnesota State Mankato in 1975 with a computer science degree. He continues to serve on the College of Business Advisory Council and during his visit will receive a 2014 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award April 25.

Plans to establish an executive residency have been in the works for two years, and College of Business Dean Brenda Flannery says it will provide an opportunity for students and faculty to engage deeper with industry executives.

“The more exposure our students get to real-world thinking and real-world experience, the better they’ll be prepared to join the business community after graduation,” says Flannery. “The executive residency is a big step forward for the College of Business. We’re so pleased that Suresh Mathews gets to take that step with us.”

As the executive in residence, Mathews will engage with students and faculty for two full days.

Mathews will also be the 2014 Morgan Thomas Executive Lecturer on Thursday, April 24 at the University. His talk, at 4:30 p.m. in the Ostrander Auditorium, will cover the evolving role of technology in business.

The lecture series was originally created to honor the first dean of the College of Business, Morgan Thomas. This event is free and open to the public.
