Plano’s Suresh Mathews Receives Distinguished Alumni Award
Award presented at April 25 ceremony.

Mankato, Minn. – Suresh Mathews of Plano, Texas, received the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from Minnesota State University, Mankato last week.
Mathews (pictured), an executive at Unisys Corporation, a global technology firm, is one of eight 2014 alumni award winners. He was honored at an April 25 ceremony hosted by the Minnesota State Mankato Alumni Association.
Alumni Achievement Awards go to graduates who have achieved high rank or honor in their professions and have had a major impact on their communities.
Mathews came to the United States at age 17 from Brunei, located on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. He graduated from Minnesota State Mankato in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
Mathews is an elected officer at Unisys Corporation, where he is senior vice president and chief information officer. He also runs a separate business unit that brings new innovative products and services to market. Prior to Unisys, Mathews held several C-level executive management positions at notable companies, including Quaker State Oil, PepsiCo and Booz-Allen.
Mathews has served as a member of the advisory board for Minnesota State Mankato’s College of Business for more than 10 years. He encourages students to train to compete in the global economy and to be relevant.
“One of the things I like to tell young people is that it’s very important for you to learn how to make a difference. It’s not just important to do things well, you also need to experiment and innovate,” he says. “The worst thing is that it may not work; the best thing is that it does.”
