How to know if you can safely resume web browsing with Internet Explorer

Before you resume using Internet Explorer to browse the web, please make sure your Windows computer has the update to make it safe.

Microsoft has released an update to Internet Explorer that addresses the vulnerability we've previously alerted you to. Our recommendation is that you do not start using IE again until after the update has been applied to your computer.

To verify that patch KB2964358 has been installed on your Windows computer, follow the instructions on this web page:

Note: please copy and paste the URL that corresponds to your version of Windows into your Firefox or Chrome web browser. If neither of these browsers is available, follow the instructions below:

  • To check if all patches have been applied, run Windows Update and click the link to check for updates.
  • When this check completes, install all "important" and "critical" updates.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Run Windows Update again and check for updates again.
  • Repeat this process until there are no important or critical updates.

To update Adobe Flash, go to and download and install the latest Flash version.
