Mankato, Minn. – For the second year in a row, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants has named a Minnesota State University, Mankato alum a winner of the prestigious Elijah Watt Sells Award, which recognizes outstanding performance on the Uniform CPA Examination.
Minnesota State University, Mankato alumnus Skyler Stensrud (pictured), a 2013 graduate of Minnesota State Mankato’s College of Business with majors in both accounting and finance, was one of only 60 nationwide winners of the 2014 award.
The Elijah Watt Sells award was created in 1923 by the AICPA in honor of one of the first CPAs in the United States. Award recipients must have a minimum cumulative average score of 95.5 across all four sections of the exam on their first attempt.
A total of 91,384 candidates sat for the CPA exam in 2014, and Stensrud’s achievement placed him in the top .0007 percent of those candidates.
Stensrud, a 2010 graduate of Marshall High School in Marshall, Minn., who is now employed with KPMG LLP in Minneapolis, is the only 2014 award winner to have graduated with an accounting degree from a Minnesota college or university.
