MANKATO – The special 50th Highland Summer Theatre will continue with “Seussical,” a musical that brings to life colorful characters from the Dr. Seuss books.

To help celebrate the child- and family-friendly nature of the musical, Minnesota State University, Mankato Theatre has partnered with community organizations and businesses to invite 300 less fortunate children to a preview performance of the musical at 7:30 p.m. June 7. Weilage Advisory Group and Xcel Energy each donated $1,000 so that we could give the tickets to the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota to distribute to children and their families.

Coughlan Companies donated 25 Dr. Seuss books that will be given away in a drawing at the event, and “The Cat in the Hat” will meet the children during intermission.

Here’s a bit more about the production: Now one of the most performed shows in America, “Seussical” is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza. Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination—Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

“Seussical” runs 7:30 p.m. June 8-11 in the Ted Paul Theatre, Performing Arts Center, Minnesota State Mankato.

Tickets are $22 regular and $19 discounted (for those over 65, under 16 and groups of 15 or more).
