June 22: Summer Outdoor Film Series Begins

"Beauty and the Beast" is first film in series that is free and open to the general public.

Mankato, Minn. – The Mankato-area community is invited to bring a blanket along with families and friends to a free summer outdoor film series at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Student Activities at Minnesota State Mankato, with assistance from the University’s Centennial Student Union, will host outdoor films on campus beginning Thursday, June 22 with a screening of “Beauty and the Beast” (PG rating). Films will start at 9 p.m.

The outdoor films (all rated PG-13 or lower) are open to the public as well as the campus community. Each film will be projected onto an outdoor movie screen in the amphitheatre, located between the Centennial Student Union and Memorial Library with free parking directly next to the amphitheatre in Gold Lot 4.

Those attending outdoor films are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to sit on. Popcorn, candy and beverages will be available for purchase. In case of inclement weather, films will be shown in Ostrander Auditorium, which is located in Centennial Student Union.

Food donations for Campus Kitchen and Campus Cupboard will be collected. For each non-expired food donation, participants will receive a free small popcorn. Limit two popcorns per family.

The outdoor film series is a part of a summer programming series sponsored by the Centennial Student Union and Student Activities. Other events include an organized bike ride, BBQ demonstration and more. All events are free to the public. Student Activities has five full-time staff and four graduate students who provide guidance and planning for more than 230 student groups, Greek Life, Community Engagement and campus-wide programming.
