Jan. 18: Life-Size Ice Sculpture of Stomper to be Carved

Event will be held in Centennial Student Union mall area from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mankato, Minn. -- Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Student Events Team is bringing Sakatah Carvers, an ice-carving team from Waseca, Minn., to the campus Thursday, Jan. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to carve a life-sized ice sculpture of the University’s Stomper mascot in the Centennial Student Union mall area.

The carving of Stomper is expected to be finished around 12 p.m. Thursday, and the Student Events Team will be providing hot chocolate, s’mores and free cookies as a way to promote school spirit.

Local radio station Hot 96.7 will provide music at the event. The public is welcome to attend.
Once completed, the Stomper sculpture will remain up for a few days, allowing for photo opportunities.

This is the second time an ice carving event has been hosted by the Student Events Team.
Sakatah Carvers, run by Adam Scholljegerdes and Joe Christenson, has won numerous awards and hosted the Kiwanis Holiday Lights carving competition, according to the team’s website.
