Feb. 15: Celebration of 'Anthropology Day'

Department of Anthropology will hold open house, and department founder will speak on "Race and the Fallacy of White Supremacy."

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Anthropology will celebrate the American Anthropological Association’s “Anthropology Day” Thursday, Feb. 15 with an open house and presentation from Paul Brown, an emeritus faculty member and founder of Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Anthropology.

The events are free and open to the public.

The open house is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in 359 Trafton Science Center North. Brown’s presentation, titled “Race and the Fallacy of White Supremacy,” is from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Centennial Student Union, Rooms 253/254. A brief question and answer period will follow Brown’s lecture.

Plans for the open house include a trivia contest, raffles for prizes, snacks (sweet and salty), a donation drive to benefit ECHO Food Shelf, a faculty-led department tour (11 a.m.) and a selfie contest.

The donation drive to benefit ECHO Food Shelf will be held from Feb. 12-16 in honor of Minnesota State Mankato’s sesquicentennial anniversary celebration. The Department of Anthropology is hoping to collect $150 in donations. Anthropology Day is a day for anthropologists around the world to share their excitement about their discipline with the public around them.

The Department of Anthropology is part of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Minnesota State Mankato.
