Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Adventure Education Program will host its 6th Annual Whipper Snapper Indoor Rock Climbing Competition on Sunday, March 25 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at the indoor rock wall facility within the University’s Myers Field House.

Check-in for competitors begins at 9 a.m. Registration cost to compete in the Whipper Snapper is $30. More information, including an online registration form, is available here.

Spectators are welcome to attend and watch the event for free. Free parking is available in gold parking lots 7 & 8, located adjacent to the Myers Field House and Blakeslee Stadium.

Those with questions may contact Ben Nelson in Minnesota State Mankato’s Office of Campus Recreation by phone at 507-389-1330 or by email at

The competition attracts climbers of all ages and all abilities from Minnesota and the surrounding states. Competitive divisions range from beginner to advanced.

Competition scoring is not based on speed. The modified Redpoint scoring format challenges climbers to climb a marked route “clean” without weighting their rope, slipping on a climbing hold or using unmarked holds. Competitors test their endurance by attempting to climb their best and accruing points for their top climbs.
