MANKATO – The Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre and Dance is looking for children to fill some important roles in the upcoming production of “The Music Man,” to be staged Sept. 27-29 and Oct. 4-7 in the Ted Paul Theatre.

Public auditions will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, in the Andreas Theatre of the Earley Center for Performing Arts at Minnesota State Mankato.

The two featured children’s roles are Winthrop Paroo (the shy, lisping, younger brother of Marian, the librarian) and Amaryllis (the young piano student of Marian). The department will be looking for a boy between the ages of 8 and 10 and a girl between the ages of 7 and 9 to fill these roles.

Various other children will be cast in supportive roles, including many young boys needed for the Boys’ Band roles. Children should be no older than 14 and no taller than 5 feet 4 inches.

Children do not need to prepare any material. They will be taught a song and lines at the audition.

“The Music Man” is a classic musical comedy set in 1912 and tells the story of a charming but dishonest salesman, Harold Hill, and his adventures in the small town of River City, Iowa.
