Family Orientation Dates

There are a variety of different orientation dates offered throughout June and July for family/guests.  Once your student receives an invitation, he/she must register the family member/guests on his/her reservation. Students can register for orientation online or by mailing in his/her registration form.

 Which Orientation Program Is Right For My Student?

2 Day Program

  • Overnight component and activities allow for more social connections for the students
  • Recommended for first generation students and families
  • Hear from a broader range of presenters and departments
  • Sessions to provide both students and family members with faculty interaction
  • Allows more time for questions

1 Day Program

  • Fast paced information on university services
  • Provides students and family members with a quick overview of University resources
  • Recommended for students who completed PSEO courses at Minnesota State Mankato; are enrolled in a Learning Community program in the fall; or students who have attended an Admitted Student Open House

Two Day Family Orientation Program Schedule

  • Family and guests are encouraged to attend as much as the program as possible. Program check-in begins at 10:15 a.m. on day one, and typically ends by 4:00 p.m. on day two. Lunch is not included on day one of Orientation. 

Day One Overview (TENTATIVE)

10:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Orientation Check-in 

Pre-Orientation Sessions (11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)

  • Financial Aid Information Sessions
  • Student ID (MavCARD) Appointments

1:00 p.m.: Orientation Begins

1:00-5:00 p.m.: Information Sessions

  • Academic Expectations and Information by major/college
  • Student Financial Services-Financial Aid
  • Residential Life
  • Dining Services

5:30-6:45 p.m.: Dinner

  • Family Orientation ends after dinner on day one. Student programming continues throughout the night.

Day Two Overview (TENTATIVE)

7:15-8:30 a.m.: Room Checkout and Breakfast

8:30-9:15 a.m. Campus Resource and Office Fair

9:30-11:15 a.m.: Information Sessions

  • Student Health Services
  • Campus Security and Safety
  • Support Resources for Students
  • Textbook Information
  • Student Panel
  • Faculty Panel

11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.: Lunch

12:15-4:00 p.m.: Afternoon Information Sessions

  • What is My Role as a Parent Now?
  • Parking and Bus Information
  • Campus Computer Store
  • Welcome Week Information

12:30-4:00 p.m.: Student Advising and Registration (Students Only)
