Basics of Extemporaneous Speaking

Designed for all coaches of competitive speech activities but it is specifically intended for coaches who are new extemp speaking. Even experienced coaches may find the information interesting and valuable.

 

Basics of Interpretation

This lesson is designed for beginning coaches. Material presented here will help new coaches understand what interpretation events are at NFL tournaments, how to select appropriate material for interpretation; and basic approaches to coaching and judging interpretation events.

The Ethics and Competitive Forensics module is designed for beginning coaches. Material presented here will help new coaches understand the basic concepts and codes of competitive forensics.

 

Introduction to NFL and HS Forensics

The Introduction to NFL and Competitive Forensics module is designed for coaches of competitive speech activities. The material presented here will help forensic coaches and educators understand the history of competitive speech activities and the National Forensic League.

 

Introduction to Original Oratory

Designed for all coaches of competitive speech activities but it is specifically intended for coaches who are new to Original Oratory. Even experienced coaches may find the information interesting and valuable.

 

Introduction to LD Debate

Designed for all coaches of competitive speech activities but it is specifically intended for coaches who are new to Lincoln-Douglas style debating. Even experienced coaches may find the information interesting and valuable.

 

Introduction to Policy Debate

Designed for all coaches of competitive speech activities but it is specifically intended for coaches who are new to policy debating. While there is certainly material that even experienced coaches would find interesting and valuable, seasoned policy debate coaches would probably find the advanced modules more valuable.

 

Basics of Parliamentary Procedure

The Parliamentary Procedure module is designed for beginning coaches. Material presented here will help new coaches understand the basic principles, terminology, and process for using parliamentary procedure to run meetings.

 

Individual Event Team Development and Management

In this module, students will learn about what is needed to develop and maintain a high school forensics program. The emphasis will be on individual events, but much of the information also applies to debate programs as well.

 

Advanced Extemporaneous Speaking

This course is designed for students with experience in extemporaneous speaking or for those students who have completed the Basics of Extemporaneous Speaking module.

 

Advanced Humorous Interpretation

The Advanced Humorous Interpretation module is designed for novice and veteran coaches. Material presented here will help novice and veteran coaches identify theories of humor, foundations of understanding humor, research on humor, and performing humor.

 

Advanced Interpretation Theory

>Module is intended to provide exposure to advanced concepts related to interpretation theory. The emphasis is on performance theory rather than coaching strategies. The module attempts to link performance studies concepts to forensic practice.

 

Origins of Rhetoric: Sophists to Cicero

This course is designed to introduce students to the classical origins of rhetorical theory and criticism.

 

Advanced Team Management

This module is intended to provide exposure to advanced concepts related to managing a forensic program. The emphasis is on building and maintaining the social-emotional health of teams as well as Directors.
