The Speech & Debate Program: A Focus on Instruction & Competition

This program is designed to provide a series of continuing education/professional development and/or graduate educational offerings in speech and debate. We realize many of you are veteran coaches, teachers and administrators, while others are beginning or novice coaches, teachers and administrators. Our program provides opportunities for all ranges of speech and debate coaches and teachers. We offer a wide variety of modules tied to specialized areas of speech and debate. Where appropriate, we offer novice and advanced modules in the same topic area.

Continuing Education Units

The modules are designed to meet national standards for Continuing Education consistent with the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). As such, these modules should meet standards for continuing education for all educational institutions. All participants in this program are advised to confirm with their appropriate continuing education agencies the modules will be accepted as continuing education units (CEUs).

The modules are all designed to count for one (1) complete CEU. As noted by IACET, ten (10) contact hours is equal to one (1) CEU. Each module, therefore, will be designed to be completed in ten (10) contact hours.

The cost of each module is $125.00

Graduate tuition/fees are different than CEU costs. Details on graduate tuiton/fees are available at www.mnsu.edu/campushub/tuiton_fees/

Graduate Credit

In addition to offering CEUs, participants in the program have the option of completing modules for graduate credit rather than (not in addition to) CEUs.

  • Completion of 2 modules = 1 graduate credit
  • Completion of 3 modules = 2 graduate credits
  • Completion of 4 modules = 3 graduate credits

Students wishing to receive graduate credit instead of CEUs will need to register and complete all of the modules in a grouping. Upon successful completion , students will have earned the appropriate graduate credits in the Communication Studies Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Graduate tuition/fees are different than CEU costs. Details on graduate tuiton/fees are available at www.mnsu.edu/campushub/tuiton_fees/
