This program is designed to provide a series of continuing education/professional development and/or graduate educational offerings in Forensics and Speech Communication. We realize that many of you are veteran coaches, teachers and administrators, and yet others are beginning or novice coaches, teachers and administrators. This program should provide opportunities for all ranges of forensic coaches and teachers. There are a variety of modules tied to specialized areas of forensics and speech communication. Where appropriate, there are novice and advanced modules for the same topic.
These modules are designed to meet national standards for Continuing Education consistent with the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). As such, these modules should meet standards for continuing education for all educational institutions. All participants in this program are advised to confirm with their appropriate continuing education agencies that these modules will be accepted as continuing education units (CEUs).
The modules are all designed to count for one (1) complete CEU. As noted by IACET, ten (10) contact hours is equal to one (1) CEU. Each module, therefore, will be designed to be completed in ten (10) contact hours.
The cost of each module is $125.00
In addition to offering CEUs, participants in this program will have the option of completing these modules for graduate credit rather than (not in addition to) CEUs. Modules will be grouped by theme into units of four (4). Students wishing to receive graduate credit instead of CEUs will need to register and complete all of the modules in the group. Upon successful completion of each group, students will have earned three (3) graduate credits in the Communication Studies Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Novice groupings will receive three (3) credits of SPEE 540 (Special topics) and advanced groupings will receive three (3) credits of SPEE 640 (Special Topics).
Students who wish to do so may then use these credits to continue in the Graduate Program in Speech Communication. Students wishing to continue in the Graduate Program in Speech Communication will need to meet admission requirements for either the MA/MS/MFA program, or may also choose to enroll in the Certificate Program in Professional Communication. This program is offered fully online, while the other programs currently require residency in Mankato.
