Fall 2011 Events

Library Research for Nontraditional Students – Library Research Tips for the Rest of Us - ML 1027

These one hour sessions are specifically designed for nontraditional students who are returning to, or just starting, college. Learn how to find books and journal articles. An optional brief library tour is included.  Contact is Monica Antonelli.

Nontraditional Student and Family Welcome Picnic – Tuesday, August 30 – 4-6 PM Highland Park

Bring your family to this free event and meet other students who are parents, older than 24, veterans, commuters, or married/divorced.   Food provided by the Nontraditional Student Center, Women’s Center, and Veteran’s Resource Center. 

Wellness Coaching for Nontrad Students – Wednesday, September 14 – Noon-1 in the NTSC

Certified Wellness Coach Cherie Pettitt from the Mayo Health System will show how wellness coaching can help students achieve their personal and wellness goals.  Healthy lunch provided!  RSVP to activities@mnsu.edu or just show up!

Finances 201: Financing School and Life – Tuesday, October 11 – Noon-1 in the NTSC

Mark Murphy, Wells Fargo Manager talks about balancing financial obligations of school and life for students with multiple obligations.  Lunch provided!  RSVP to activities@mnsu.edu or just show up!

National Nontraditional Student Week – November 7-11

Watch for a variety of programs, outreach, and marketing targeted specifically at nontraditional students.  Tabling throughout the week, events for commuters one day, veterans the next, and parents too.

Nontraditional Student Meet and Greet- January 12th, 2012 from 10 am to 3 pm (CSU Mav Ave)

Nontraditional Student Advisory Board Members will be handing out information about the Nontraditional Student Center. Cookies and Punch will be served!

[JPG] Nontraditional Student Panel- January 25th, 2012 from 4pm to 6 pm in Ostrander Auditorium (167 KiB)

A panel made up of nontraditional students at Minnesota State University, Mankato will be offering an opportunity for staff, students, and the community to gain an understanding of what it means to be a nontraditional students. Food and refreshmants will be served prior to event starting.

Mount Kato Family Event- February 11, 2012 from 11 am to 2 pm at Mount Kato

Nontraditional students are encouraged to bring their families out for free sledding at Mount Kato. For more information please contact Ashley Strom at ashley.strom@mnsu.edu.

Heart Healthy Presentation- February 15th, 2012 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in CSU 191 (Near Student Activities)

Put down that cheeseburger and listen up! We all know the facts about how eating poorly and not exercising can damage your body and your heart. But those who take care of their bodies and eat healthy are still at risk for heart problems. We present to you an opportunity to learn about being heart healthy and ways to ensure you are treating your ticker right!

Family Bowling Evening at Wow Zone- February 26th from 4 pm to 7 pm at Wow Zone

Nontraditional students are encouraged to bring their families to Wow Zone for a fun night of free bowling! For more information please contact the NTSC at NTSC@mnsu.edu

Mental Wellness: A Guide to Stress Managment- April 25th, 2012 from Noon to 1 pm in CSU 191 (Near Student Activites)

Ever feel like your head is going to explode? Like you are being pulled in a thousand different directions? Then this program is for you! We all experience stress and have coping mechanisms that help us through tough times. Those mechanisms may cause undue stress and prevent you from working through your stress. This program will help you choose stress management tools and how to identify when you are stressed out to the max!
