What is Office 365?

Page address: https://web.mnsu.edu/office365/about.html

Microsoft Office 365 is a suite of Cloud-hosted tools, allowing users to access a variety of software from any device as long as an internet connection is available. There are no installations, no updates, and nothing required from the user other than logging in to the service.

Some applications included are:

  • Microsoft Office Online - Lite versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will be accessible anywhere with an internet connection. Mobile apps will also be provided to allow users to access the software from their mobile devices, such as phones or tablets.
  • OneDrive - Serves as an online storage service for pictures, videos, and word documents. OneDrive provides all faculty and staff with 5TB of storage in the Cloud. Functionality and support of the service will continue to grow as time goes on. OneDrive will not replace MavDISK or any other current service provided by ITS.
  • Yammer - A social media site for our campus (similar to Facebook); ideal for classes, student groups, administrative units, research projects, learning communities, and anyone needing a social space. It is maintained by our campus and helps us communicate with each other while maintaining adherence to HIPAA/FERPA policies.
  • Lync - With the ability to share documents instantly and new Skype connectivity, Lync is a great instant messaging client available to users for free. Lync is available on most operating systems and mobile devices.
  • Desktop Office Suite - Users will be able to download full versions of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, and more to their computer at no cost.
