  • Family are not required to attend orientation with their student, but they are encouraged!

Orientation Check-In

7:45-8:45 a.m. | Ballroom Lobby, 2ndFloor CSU

At check-in, pick up your orientation materials for the day!

Math and English Placement Test

7:45-8:20 a.m. | Academic Computer Center, Wissink Hall

Students have an information card in their orientation check-in packet that includes their ACT scores and information about if they need to take the Math and English Placement Test. Not all students will need to take this test. Students complete this test at their own pace. Once you finish the test, return to the Ballroom for orientation programming.

MavCARD (Student ID)

7:45-8:45 a.m. | Ballroom Lobby, 2nd Floor CSU

MavCARD pick up for students with an approved photo submitted in advance through the online process. To get a student ID your student must present a current, government-issued photo ID.

Campus Resource Fair

7:45-9:00 a.m. | South Ballroom, 2nd Floor CSU

Visit with various offices and departments to learn about services and opportunities for involvement. Take care of any campus business you may need to conduct, buy your parking permit, turn in release forms, or take a short campus tour.

Self-Guided Residence Hall Room Tour

7:45-8:45 a.m. | Preska Residence Hall

A renovated room type in Preska I Hall and a suite style room in Preska K Hall will be available to view during this time. The Preska I Hall room layout is similar to rooms in Crawford and McElroy. The Preska K Hall room layout is similar to rooms in Preska J,K,L Halls and Julia Sears Residence Community.

Welcome to Minnesota State University, Mankato! Students and families will be introduced to the orientation staff and receive updates and information about the orientation experience.

Student Financial Services: Financial Aid and Important Dates

9:10-9:40 a.m. | Ballroom, 2nd Floor CSU

Hear some helpful tips and information about navigating financial aid and paying for college. This session will also cover important dates related to financial aid, tuition payment, and more.

Academic College Meetings and Information

9:50-10:20 a.m.

Student Relations Coordinators (SRCs) will introduce your student's college, academic expectations, and the support available through faculty and academic advisors.

  • Students majoring in Secondary Education (junior/middle or senior high school teaching) should attend the session which best matches the subject matter they wish to teach.
  • Students in pre-professional programs (i.e. Medicine, Law, Veterinary Science, etc.) should attend the session which best matches the subject matter of their plan of study.
  • The Undecided session is for students who have not yet selected a major.

Student Health Services

Student Health Services provides comprehensive medical services with a full-service pharmacy and laboratory. This presentation will summarize what families need to know prior to their student arriving on campus. Health education services will also be reviewed including volunteer opportunities and substance abuse prevention education for students and parents.

Campus Security and Safety

Campus Security provides a variety of services for students on campus. This session will address the various resources available to your student and provide basic information on safety at Minnesota State Mankato.

Enjoy lunch in the University Dining Center with other family members of Minnesota State Mankato students!

Course Advising and Registration

12:30-3:15 p.m.

During this time students will complete advising and registration. Students will return to the CSU after they complete registration. This session is for students only.

Come understand the tight rope you are about to walk; how to stay connected to your Maverick, yet let them go and gain their independence. Understand how to mentor your Maverick during their college years.
