Program Review Checklist

One year before Program Review

  • Department representatives meet with dean to review expectations.
  • Department initiates self-study process.
  • Department discusses with and provides to college dean the names of at least 5 potential external reviewers.

Eight months before Site Visit

  • College dean invites external reviewer(s), explains our process and expectations, and sets tentative dates for visit based on schedules of external reviewer(s), department and administrators.

Two months before Site Visit

  • Department submits self -study to college dean for final review.

One month before Site Visit

  • Dean sends final versions of self-study and specific questions to external reviewer(s).
  • Visit arrangements are finalized by department in contact with external reviewer(s) and administrators.
  • Vice President (and Graduate Dean, if appropriate) meets with department to hear about conclusions of self study.
  • Dean sends copy of self-study to graduate dean, if appropriate.

Site Visit

  • External reviewers meet with department faculty, staff, and students and review documentation to evaluate program
  • External reviewers should meet with the college dean (and graduate dean if there are graduate programs) for an initial interview and for an exit interview.
  • External reviewers should meet with the Academic VP at an appropriate time during the visit.
  • Departments will process the reimbursement paperwork of the visit.

One month following Site Visit

  • Dean receives a report with recommendations from the external reviewer(s) and will forward it to the department.

Two months following Site Visit

  • Department will meet with dean (and graduate dean if appropriate) to discuss the department's response to the external reviewer's recommendations.
  • Based on the department's discussion with the dean(s), the Department will submit their proposed 5-year goals and implementation strategies for program improvement to the college dean.

Three months following Site Visit

  • The college dean (in consultation with the graduate dean if appropriate) will respond to the proposed department goals, indicating support or lack of it for them.
  • Dean will submit to Academic Affairs a copy of the self-study, the consultant's report, the department's response with proposed 5 year goals, and the dean(s)'s response to the goals.
  • Dean will discuss the results with the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
