The space program of a master plan provides a numerical evaluation that can be used as a planning tool for capital funding because it provides the University with a set of numbers from which to determine proposed building projects. Space calculations also provide the University with an understanding and a direction of how to better utilize its present space, what new square footage is needed and where the University is heading in the short and long terms.
The criteria upon which the space evaluation is based includes the following elements:
- Physical space inventory
- Fall 2000 FTES and 2010 projected FTES
- Fall 2000 faculty counts and 2010 projected faculty counts
- Industry guidelines
- Secondary components (such as ancillary, staff and support space statistics)
