MnSCU Chancellors Charge to
Search Committee for President
Minnesota State University, Mankato
Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU)
Selecting
a new president for Minnesota State University, Mankato is
one of the very important tasks before us in the months ahead.
Accordingly, it is vital that you as a committee provide the
Board of Trustees and the Chancellor with the best possible
candidates from which the final selection will be made.
You are charged to provide a list of three (3) unranked candidates,
each of whom is fully capable of serving as President of Minnesota
State University, Mankato. Your work developing this list
shall take place as outlined in Board of Trustees Policy 4.2,
under the direction of Dr. Wilson Bradshaw, Chair of the Committee
and President of Metropolitan State University, and with the
assistance of Ms. Linda Skallman, Associate Vice Chancellor
for Personnel, Office of the Chancellor. The MnSCU Presidential
Search Procedures document, which provides a framework for
conducting a presidential search, should guide your efforts.
It is the expectation that each of the three (3) candidates
that you refer for final consideration by the Board of Trustees
and the Chancellor will be fully able to do each of the following:
- Lead and preside over a university and its constituencies
in accordance with a model of shared governance conducive
to cooperation and creativity.
- Assure the efficient administration of the university
by establishing and making reasonable progress toward achieving
annual goals; establishing and maintaining an effective
team of academic and administrative officers; and developing
and administering necessary functions and systems to support
the academic mission.
- Demonstrate leadership, fairness, and sensitivity to all
issues which create an inclusive, respectful environment
for protected class associates.
- Advise the Chancellor, Office of the Chancellor staff,
and the Board of Trustees on matters of system policy as
requested, as appropriate, and otherwise administering and
supporting all MnSCU policies and programs.
- Lead in generating and sustaining a vision of the university,
within the university, throughout the region, and as an
integral part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.
Chancellor James
