| Program Description | The Biology major offers a core program intended to develop a common background in biology and additional upper level courses designed to provide specialized options. Students typically take a broad based general biology major or an emphasis in one of the following 8 areas: general biology, cytotechnology, ecology, human biology, microbiology, physiology, plant science, toxicology, or zoology. The Department of Biological Sciences also supports Bachelor of Science (B.S.) programs in Biotechnology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences/Medical Technology, Environmental Science, Food Science Technology, and Science Education. Biology majors are appropriate options for students planning to pursue medical school, physical therapy, veterinary school, or other science-based professional programs. |
| Admission Requirements | Admission to the major is required for enrollment in junior and senior level courses. Application forms are available in the College Advising Center, Trafton C-125. Admission requirements are 32 earned semester credit hours including BIOL 105 and 106, with a grade of a "C" or better in both BIOL 105 and 106; and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00. |
| Other Requirements | All courses leading to a major or a minor in biology must be taken for letter grades. Any exception to this policy must be approved by the chairperson of the department. |
