Undergraduate Degree Type(s) BA, BS, including an American Chemical Society approved option, BST in Chemistry Teaching
Program Description Chemists investigate the properties of substances. Through this study, chemists have profound effects on our everyday lives. The work of chemists is central to the development of products such as effective pharmaceuticals for health care, printed circuits for technology, safe pesticides for agriculture, fuels for our energy needs, fibers for textiles and food products for good, convenient nutrition. Chemists are also involved in forensic analysis in crime labs, the development of alternative energy resources, chemical analysis for environmental agencies and the development of materials for medical technology.

Chemistry is also an appropriate degree option for those students planning to pursue professional programs in medicine, pharmacy, optometry, chiropractic, podiatry, osteopathic medicine, or dental school.
Admission Requirements Admission to the major is required for enrollment in 300- and 400-level courses. To be eligible for admission to the chemistry program, a student must have declared Chemistry as a first major, completed 32 credits (including CHEM 201 and 202) and achieved a minimum GPA of 2.0. Applications for admission to the chemistry program are available in the College Advising Center, Trafton C-125.
Other Requirements To earn a major or minor in chemistry, a student must achieve an overall GPA of 2.00 in chemistry coursework, and have no more than 4 credits of D work in these courses.
The teaching major has different requirements and students are directed to "Chemistry Teaching" for specifics. For GPA requirements and additional information, see: http://ed.mnsu.edu/ksp/ugrad/admission.html
