Program Description	The Sport Management program is designed to provide professional preparation that develops competitive sport management leaders through a comprehensive education in both theory and its application in sports business. The Sport Management major offers students a broad base educational foundation to prepare them for a career in sport management through a comprehensive education in both theory and its application in sports business. The major prepares students with sport business concepts and develops skills and knowledge in the following areas: management, marketing, promotions, communication, legal preparation, public relations, consumer behavior, facilities, and finance. The sport and activity industry can be divided into 7 segments Professional sport entertainment (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, NASCAR, minor leagues, etc.) Amateur sport entertainment (college and high school sport, Olympic-related events) Sport services (agents, event management, resorts, cruises, law, marketing, etc.) Sport and activity participation, for-profit (golf courses, fitness and martial arts centers) Sport and activity goods (manufacturers, retail, distributors, etc.) Sport and activity participation, nonprofit (parks and recreation, YMCA, hospital, etc.) Sport media and communication (TV, radio, print, web, public relations, sport info, etc.)

Admission Requirements	Admission to Major is granted by the department. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (C) is required. *Please note:*Meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the major. In the past two admission periods, the pre-Sport Management GPA of admitted students has varied from 2.90 to 4.0. Minimum University admission requirements are a minimum of 32 earned semester credit hours.
Other Requirements	fakeFCKRemove The Minnesota State University, Mankato Sport Management program includes an internship in which the student actually performs the skills necessary for the various roles. Sport Management majors should be required to minor in one of the following areas: Accounting, Business law, Coaching, Economics, Financial Planning, Human Resource Management, International Business, or Marketing. Other minors are accepted upon advisor’s approval.
