Athletic Eligibility
The following rules govern
student athletes at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
- To PRACTICE and/or COMPETE,
students must register for a minimum of 12 credits total credits each term.
To be eligible the following year, students must pass 24 credits in their
degree program. A degree program consists of major, minor, General Education,
Professional Education, Computer Science 101, Physical Education 291, and
Cultural Diversity courses.
- All student athletes
must have passed 24 credits since the beginning of the previous Fall term
or complete an average of 12 credits for all terms that they were enrolled
in as a full-time student during the academic year.
- Students must earn 75%
(18) of their credits during the Fall and Spring terms. Only 25% (6) of their
credits may be earned during the summer session.
- All students should
register at their scheduled times each term.
- All student athletes
have a hold placed on their academic records the week before the term begins.
- No student athlete may
drop or add a course without receiving permission from the Athletic Academic
Eligibility Officer. The permission form may be obtained in the Registrar's
Office.
- Student athletes may
not drop a course that puts them under 12 credits without first discussing
the eligibility implications with their head coach and receiving written permission
from that coach.
- Student athletes must
have permission to drop courses, miss a term, enroll in summer sessions at
another institution, and take concurrent courses at 2 separate institutions.
- A student athlete who
receives a grade of "D" in a course may repeat that course. When
the course is repeated, the repeated course must be taken above the 12 credits
in their degree program.
- A student athlete who
receives a grade of "F" in a course may repeat that course. Because
the student did not receive credit for that course, the repeated course IS
counted in their degree program when they repeat it.
- Learning disabled students
may enroll for 9 credits each term and be considered a full-time student.
