The Mankato Department of Public Safety reported that at 12:47 a.m. on Nov. 18, the department responded to a report of two pedestrians being struck by a car on Third Avenue near Kingswood Drive.

A Minnesota State University, Mankato female student died Sunday, Nov. 18, after being struck by a vehicle in Mankato. Another female student who was with her was injured.

Rissa J. Amen-Reif, 22, was the woman killed, the Minnesota State Patrol reported Monday morning. Corinne Overstake, 21, remained in critical condition after undergoing surgery during the weekend.

Minnesota State Mankato President Richard Davenport expressed condolences on behalf of the entire campus community. “Our deepest, heartfelt sympathies go out to loved ones, fellow students, friends and acquaintances,” Davenport said. “And we extend our wishes for a speedy, complete recovery to the injured student. The campus community is tremendously saddened by this tragic event.”

Counselors are available for any students who seek help.
