Page address: http://www.mnsu.edu/reslife/current/roomselfaq.html

At this time, we are accepting ROOM DRAW applications from  RETURNING residents for the 2012-2013 academic year.  Returning students with questions about this opportunity should contact the Department of Residential Life.

How do I apply for the ROOM DRAW?

How can I sign up?

To choose your space for next year, apply online. You will need your TechID and a credit card to make your $250 prepayment when you sign up. We will apply your prepayment to your 2012-2013 fall semester room and board charges. If you want to pay with cash, check, or money order, please make your payment in the Residential Life Office, 111 Carkoski Commons, prior to logging in to choose your room.

When can I sign up?

For students currently living on campus, please see your ROOM DRAW and ROOM SELECTION PROCESS.

Rooms may be chosen online FROM OCTOBER 31 to NOVEMBER   xx if your name was drawn.

Is there any need to hurry?

Yes! A limited number of each room type is available. A maximum of 250 current students may apply for housing through this process. Don't miss your chance to live in one of the great new spaces on campus!

Can I get a single room next year?

For 2012-2013, 30 rooms will be designated as single rooms. These specific rooms on most floors throughout Crawford and McElroy will have one set of furniture. In addition, 30 residents can sign up for a two-person semi-suite in Julia Sears. All rooms and semi-suites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What room types can I choose from?

In Crawford and McElroy:

In Julia Sears and Preska:

What if I change my mind later?

If your plans change after you sign up for a room, you may cancel your housing contract through August 19, 2011. If you cancel your reservation on or before July 1, 2011, we will refund $200 of the $250 prepayment. None of the prepayment will be refunded after July 1. Cancellations will not be accepted after August 19. Students who pick a room and wish to change their assignment may do so in the Residential Life Office, 111 Carkoski Commons.

All cancellations must be in writing, completed online, or sent through e-mail. Cancellation forms are also available at the Department of Residential Life Office.

My friends and I want to live near each other. What should we do?

When you sign up, you may request a hold on the second space in the room by providing the other student's name and TechID.

You may hold a space for current Minnesota State Mankato students only. We will release a held space on Friday, December 10 if the student has not yet signed up for the room.

I love the new renovated areas where you can control your heat and you get an air conditioner! How can I live in a space like that?

To live in newly renovated space, choose a room in Crawford A, B, or D Hall or in McElroy H or I Hall. While the room charges are slightly higher, the renovated space is definitely worth it!

How can I compare the costs of living on campus while I shop for housing?

When shopping for housing, make sure you take into account all of these services INCLUDED when you live on campus:

Heat
Electricity
Cable TV Installation
Cable TV Service
Internet Installation
High Speed Internet Service
Wireless Internet Service in Most Rooms
Trash Removal
DVD Rental (at each front desk)
Furnishings
Meals
Flex Dollars
Red-Eye Shuttle
Ice Machines
Laundry
Residence Hall Computer Labs
Cleaning of Public Areas
Planned Social Opportunities
Trained Staff to Help You

Plus, we don't require a security deposit, so you don't need worry about losing it at the end of the year!

Who else will live in the room if I don't choose a roommate now?

We encourage you to sign up with a roommate or suite-mates of your choice. After the Room Selection process, Residential Life staff will assign students to rooms and suites with empty spaces.

What about meal plans?

Many dining options are available to students each year. Each plan typically has two components: meals and flex dollars. All students living on campus must choose a meal plan. Meal plans for next year have not yet been finalized. We will begin to offer the opportunity to sign up for a meal plan beginning in February.

Have room and board rates been set yet?

We routinely consult with students about residence hall rates for the following year later in the fall. Based on historical increases, we have calculated an example with estimated rates. The examples show the double and single room options in un-renovated halls, renovated halls, and Julia Sears with the Maverick 14 meal plan for purposes of comparison.
