Academic Programming Coordinator (2 positions) 



Academic Programming Coordinators (APCs) support the departmental academic vision for the Crawford Residence Community housing nearly 725 students, by creating and implementing programming that supports the academic transition of first year students. The APCs report directly to the Student Success Coordinator. The APC position has four foci: academic programming, administration, supervision, and academic understanding. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Academic Programming

  • Organize and create programmatic series to be carried out by each Mentor. These include: "One Minute Clinics," establishing study groups each semester and coordinating review sessions, academic incentive and reward programs, academic newsletters, registration and advising sessions, recruiting faculty involvement, and other intentional academic programs.
  • Coordinate the "study bucks" program in the Crawford Residence Community.
  • Implement two programs/workshops each semester that intentionally supports the academic success of students. (can occur in areas outside Crawford)
  • Assist in planning and presenting academic related training sessions in Community Advisor training.
  • Create academic bulletin boards to be utilized by Mentors throughout the academic year.
  • Assist the New Student & Family Programs office in helping students connect with advisors and learn about registration. 


  • Supervise, train and develop eight Maverick Mentors to assist their floor and the Crawford Residence Community in their academic transition to college.  Evaluate the Mentors on their efforts.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Mentor staff through weekly one-on-one and group meetings.
  • Develop fall semester training/orientation, and implement academic in-services for Mentors throughout the academic year.
  • Ensure that Mentors know about the services provided at the Center for Academic Success, New Student & Family Programs, Career Development Center, Library, Student Support Services, International Center, and Office of Disability Services, and connect students directly with these academic resources.


  • Co-coordinate the recruitment and selection process for the Mentor staff.
  • Work with Hall Directors in Crawford to coordinate Mentor efforts and assist in developing positive Mentor/Community Advisor working relationships.
  • Update/develop the academic Mentor manual.
  • Collect and organize Mentor efforts for future use.
  • Assist the Department of Residential Life in other ways as requested or assigned.

Academic Understanding

  • Through initiating contact, actively learn about campus academic resources including: Center for Academic Success, New Student & Family Programs, Career Development Center, Library, Student Support Service, International Center and Office of Disability Services.
  • Learn and understand the academic calendar at Minnesota State Mankato.
  • Be aware of, and share with colleagues, current academic issues at Minnesota State Mankato and in higher education.
