Residence Communities Closed
The residence communities close for Winter Break at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014. The residence communities reopen for returning students at 8:00 a.m. Friday, January 9. Food service ends on December 12, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. and begins again at 10:00 a.m. on January 9, 2015.
Winter Break Housing
Winter Break begins at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014. The residence communities will close at that time. Breakfast and lunch will be the only meals served on Friday. There will be limited service available in the Student Union during the Winter Break period. Students are advised to remove any valuables from their rooms for the duration of the break. No students will be allowed access to the residence communities over break unless previous arrangements have been made with the Department of Residential Life.
A staff member will be checking your room during closing procedures to help secure the building. If policy violations are observed while staff are securing the building, staff will document the violation and will follow-up when the resident returns.
The residence communities will open for spring semester at 8:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2015. The first meal served will be lunch.
Have a Final on Saturday or Graduating?
If you are participating in graduation events or have a Saturday final, please submit a Late Check-Out Request by Noon on Thursday, December 11 to stay in your room until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13.
If You Need To Stay for Winter Break
Students returning to the residence communities spring semester may take advantage of break housing.
You may stay in your own room during the break. In order to do so, you must register with the Department of Residential Life by December 12, 2014.
Residents of Crawford, McElroy, Preska, and Julia Sears
Register in the Residential Life office between Monday, November 10 and Friday, December 5, 2014 to be eligible for the early sign-up rate of $330. Those who register after December 5 pay $380.
Residents of Stadium Heights
Register in the Residential Life office or at the Stadium Heights front desk between Monday, November 10 and Friday, December 12, 2014.
The Winter Break fee has already been included in the Stadium Heights apartment rate, so there is no additional charge to stay provided you register for Winter Break housing by December 5. Those who register after December 5 pay $50.
Students living in Julia Sears, Crawford, McElroy, Preska and Stadium Heights will be able to use their MavCARD to unlock specified doors in the buildings. Any student found staying in the residence communities during this period who has not made previous arrangements with the Department of Residential Life will be charged for the full rate plus an administrative fee and may be subject to disciplinary proceedings.
Parking: Leaving Your Car On Campus Over Winter Break
Crawford, McElroy, Julia Sears and Preska residents who are registered to stay in the residence communities over Winter Break may keep their cars in Lot 13 or Lot 14. If you are going home over break you must take your car with you or find other parking arrangements. Unregistered cars may be subject to towing.
If you plan to have a vehicle on campus AND you are planning to stay on campus during Winter Break, please bring the license plate number from your vehicle when you register.
Stadium Heights residents may keep their cars in the small parking lot in front of building 751 over Winter Break.
Apartment and Suite Residents: Be Prepared for Winter Bathroom Inspections
Residents with in-room bathrooms, can avoid potential cleaning charges by having bathrooms ready for Winter Break inspections. Bathrooms that do not meet the inspection guidelines will be cleaned by University staff, and roommates will be held jointly responsible for cleaning charges.
