We hope you will find the information below helpful as you prepare to arrive in your semi-suite in Julia Sears!
Your room key opens both your room door and your mailbox. No other doors are accessible with this key.
The red or green bulletin board surrounding your bedroom door on the hallway side is for your use. The bulletin board will accommodate staples, tacks, or tape. Please note that tape is more foot-friendly for you and your floormates!
Your bed may be set in the lofted or unlofted position. Loft Set-Up Instructions. All bed components must remain in your room. An additional bed guard may be requested by submitting a Maintenance Request.
One desk and one dresser is provided per resident. Furniture may have an expandable surface and lockable drawers. Use padlocks (which you supply) to lock these spaces.
The rolling desk chair separates to become a low rocking chair and a table.
How To Use Your Trey Chair
To let us know of a heating or cooling concern, please complete a maintenance request.
You may adjust the ventilation with the fan control located in the bathroom. (This is not a bathroom ventilation fan.) This dial may be set to Off, Low, Medium, or High. The fan blows air into your bedroom through the vent above the doorway. In the cooling season ( typically from April 1 through mid-October), the system provides cooled air. In the heating season (typically from mid-October to April 1), the system provides warm air.
During the heating season, your room is heated by two systems: the fan discussed above and the radiator. You may adjust the radiator heat with the thermostat, located in each bedroom. Open the thermostat cover and slide the control toward Red for more heat, and toward Blue for less heat. The range of adjustment is about four degrees.
Each bedroom is equipped with one cable television jack. Please refer to the “Cable Television System” section of the Residential Life Student Guide for more information on accessing the cable television system.
There is one internet jack per student – this is the orange jack. Wireless internet access is available in public areas of the building (lobby, floor lounges, floor kitchens and laundry rooms). Please refer to the Residence Hall Internet Connection Guide for more information on accessing the internet from your room.
Most students use cellular phones for their personal communication needs. Local (wired) phone service can be made available in rooms through the local telephone service company. There is one telephone jack per bedroom. This is the gray jack. It is designed to accommodate more than one size of phone cord, so it may appear too large for your particular phone cord. To ensure that your phone cord is securely installed, insert it fully into the jack.
Privacy is provided for toilet use in your semi-suite bathroom. This privacy is achieved differently in different unit types, and can be overridden by another person.
The first roll of toilet paper is provided for your semi-suite bathroom. You are responsible for additional toilet paper purchases.
One “starter kit” of cleaning supplies is provided per bathroom. Refills are not available. One toilet plunger is also provided per bathroom.
There are seven laundry rooms in the building. All laundry rooms remain locked and are accessible to Julia Sears residents with your MavCard. Use of laundry machines is included in your room rate. These washing machines work best with high efficiency (HE) liquid detergent. If you are using powdered laundry detergent, use only ¼ of the amount specified on the box.
Julia Sears residents may access all floor communities within the building with your MavCard. MavCards are also necessary to access all floors from the exit stairs.
Please be aware that the information above may change.
