Room Temperature Control
To let us know of a heating or cooling concern, please complete a maintenance request.
Cooling and Heating: Forced Air
Residents in Preska J, K, and L may adjust the ventilation with the fan control located in the bathroom (this is not a bathroom ventilation fan). This dial may be set to Off, Low, Medium, or High. The fan blows air into your bedroom through the vent above the doorway. In the cooling season (typically from April 1st through mid October), the system provides cooled air. In the heating season (typically from mid-October to April 1), the system provides warm air.
During the heating season, your room is heated by two systems: the fan discussed above and the radiator. Residents in Preska J, K, and L may adjust the radiator heat with the thermostat, located in each bedroom. Open the thermostat cover and slide the control toward Red for more heat, and toward Blue for less heat. The range of adjustment is about four degrees.
Each bedroom is equipped with one cable television jack. Residents must supply their own cable cord.
There is one internet jack per room in addition to one wireless access point in every student room which provides an excellent wireless connection in the room and throughout the entire residence community.
Community bathrooms are found on Preska I Hall floors. Community Bathrooms are to be used by men-only or women-only as posted.
Privacy is provided for toilet use in Preska J, K, and L semi-suite bathrooms. This privacy is achieved differently in different unit types, and can be overridden by another person.
- In bathrooms where the toilet is located in a private toilet room, the bathroom doors do not have locks. The toilet rooms have privacy locks, which may be unlocked from the outside by inserting a coin or screwdriver into the slot on the door handle.
- In bathrooms where the toilet is not located within a private toilet room, the bathroom doors have a button lock. The lock may be opened from the bedroom by turning the knob on the door handle.
Toilet paper is supplied to residents throughout the year. To request more, submit a maintenance request.
One “starter kit” of cleaning supplies is provided per bathroom. Refills are not available. One toilet plunger is also provided per bathroom.
There is one main laundry room in the Preska building in the lower level and a laundry room on each floor. Laundry rooms are locked and are accessible to Preska residents with their MavCARD. Use of laundry machines is included in your room rate. These washing machines work best with high efficiency (HE) liquid detergent.
Card Access to Other Floor Communities
Preska residents may access all floor communities within their hall and Residential Life exterior doors that are connected to their building with their MavCARD. MavCARDs are also necessary to access all floors from the exit stairs.
