Move-In Day

Page address:

Residence Communities open at 9 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2020.

Arriving to MSU

While most of our students will choose to move in on Thursday, August 20 (so that they can get settled in and participate in Welcome Week events), please know that you may arrive anytime between August 20 and August 23.  While move-in begins on August 20, it will continue until the first day of class.  If your plans have changed and you will no longer be enrolled as a student for the Fall Semester, please contact our office.

Here's a few helpful hints to keep in mind as you prepare to move:

  • Dress comfortably.
  • Prepare for the day accordingly.  It may be hot and humid or cool and rainy.  Either way, there will be hundreds of students and families trying to move in at the same time so being patient and having a sense of humor will go a long way!
  • Decide what is really important to move with you on Move-In Day.  Seasonal items that are not needed for the first few weeks can be brought at another time when there aren't lines for the elevators.

Driving Directions and Parking Information

During Move-In Day (August 20), on-campus traffic is routed in specific directions in and around each residence community. Street signs will be displayed and volunteers will be directing traffic within parking lots. Traffic can be fairly heavy at times, but the system works smoothly with everyone's patience and cooperation.

We have created specific Move-In Maps for each residence community.  Simply click on the map below for the residence community you have been assigned to so you can view your route to campus, find out where you can unload your vehicle, and learn how to check-in to your residence community.

If you plan on arriving anytime after 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 20 you may use any route to campus and follow the instructions at this link: Instructions for Arriving after 4 p.m. on August 20 and throughout Move-In Weekend.
