Center for Rural Policy and Development appoints research manager
ST. PETER, MN — The Center for Rural Policy and Development announced today the appointment of Marnie Werner to the position of research manager. Ms. Werner, who has been the program manager at the Center since joining it in 2000, will now be responsible for overseeing the Center’s upcoming research in such areas as agriculture, education, demographics and telecommunications, plus the production of the Center’s award-winning Rural Minnesota Journal. A policy research organization, the Center has worked the last ten years to provide unbiased and non-partisan data and information to policy makers around the state.
“We’re very pleased to be able to turn this new position over to someone who has such a long record of responsibility and value to the Center,” said Daniel C. Reardon, chairman of the Center’s Board of Directors. “We know the research program and our many publications will be in good hands.”
Ms. Werner holds a degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and a master’s degree in public policy from the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the U of M. Before coming to the Center, Ms. Werner was the Capitol reporter for ECM Publishers, a group of newspapers in east central Minnesota.
“Marnie has been a tremendous asset to the Center through the years,” said interim president Louis Hohlfeld. “Her expanded role with the Center will capitalize on many more of her skills. We are fortunate to have such a competent person.”
