Latest Issue of Rural Minnesota Journal Focusing on Rural Women Now Available

St. Peter, MN – The Center for Rural Policy & Development today released its latest edition of the Rural Minnesota Journal.The new 145-page volume contains eight articles, each examining the challenges and advances for women in rural Minnesota.

“Author after author found that these women face unique challenges when it comes to caring for their children and their elderly parents, finding a job or even navigating the health care system,” said Brad Finstad, executive director of the Center for Rural Policy & Development.

Finstad added that the public policy implications are considerable. “I believe this is a must-read for public policy makers and rural leaders throughout the state of Minnesota.”

Authors contributing to this edition of the Rural Minnesota Journal include: Martha McMurry and Dr. R. Thomas Gillaspy of the Minnesota State Demographic Center; Madeleine Alberts of the Children, Youth and Family Consortium at the University of Minnesota; Cecil Gassis and Anne Ganey of the YWCA of Mankato; Donna Rae Scheffert of the Center for Community Vitality at the University of Minnesota; Doris Mold of Sunrise Agricultural Associates in St. Paul; Jan Hively, University of Minnesota Senior Fellow (retired); Kristen Tharaldson and Angie Sechler, Office of Rural Health & Primary Care at the Minnesota Department of Public Health; and Mary Mathews of the Northeast Entrepreneur Fund in Duluth.

The new Fall 2008 issue of the Rural Minnesota Journal can be viewed and downloaded for free on the Rural Minnesota Journal page of the Center’s website. Those who would like to obtain a hard copy can request one by calling the Center for Rural Policy & Development at (507) 934-7700. There is a $3 postage and handling fee. The Journal is also available at libraries throughout the state.
