Economic vitality :
Workforce in the manufacturing sector, 2006

After growing quickly in the 1990s, manufacturing employment suffered large setbacks during the first few years of the 2000s. After losing about 33,000 jobs between 2001 and 2004, the sector rebounded somewhat in 2005, but in 2006 manufacturing jobs declined again from 362,545 to 361,165. As the map shows, there are still several rural counties where a large percentage of the employment is dependent on manufacturing. For example, in Roseau County, 40% of the workforce works in manufacturing. Manufacturing accounts for 10.1% of all jobs in Minnesota.
