Health :
Physicians, 2007

As the map shows, physicians are concentrated in counties with large hospitals, but not necessarily large cities. On the other hand, the shortage of physicians in some areas is apparent. Some are explainable, such as counties adjacent to a county with a large facility (Sherburne and Benton next to St. Cloud, Dodge and Fillmore adjacent to Rochester, and Clay, adjacent to Fargo). There is a distinct drop off in many rural counties, however.

The actual number of physicians practicing may vary somewhat from the data given here since the number of physicians in each county is based on the worksite address on file with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practices. About 15% to 20% of license holders do not have an address on file for various reasons, including not actively practicing or simply not supplying an address.
